The Covid-19 pandemic has forced companies to rethink their way of working. Many are adopting a blended model of working from home and at the office. It was widely believed that the work-from-home experience would be more relaxed and less stressful and initially, it was.
Employees who worked from home were more productive owing to, reduced commuting between home and the office, reduced travelling to meetings and fewer distractions at the office.
But the world struggled to navigate the pandemic and had to deal with rising infection rates, emergence of new virus variants and extended lockdowns. Consequently, employees (especially remote workers) began to experience heightened, stress levels, anxiety, loneliness and depression.

According to a recent Gallup poll… productivity and job satisfaction have improved with remote work and the potential for cost savings is real. At the same time, there are indications that loneliness, mental health issues, and the risk of burnout have also increased. It is unclear how much of this is driven by the social isolation brought on by Covid-19, and how much of this is a byproduct of full-time virtual work.
